Talking Tech with LogiQ-On Tech
Blog by Nicky Monk
It was privilege to be a guest expert speaker on LogiQ-On Tech’s latest Episode. I have been a wireless specialist for 15 years and have worked with LogiQ-On Tech on a number of wireless projects but being in front of the camera with them was something very different and certainly a highlight in my career.
Nicky's Journey into Wi-Fi
Host Simon Wile from LogiQ-On Tech invites me to talk about how I got into the Wi-Fi industry. I discuss how I started at only 19 years old and was thrown into the deep end. I talk about the mistakes I made and how that shaped my career.
I show the tools I use to complete a Wi-Fi survey, and discuss how I used to have to balance a heavy duty bulky laptop and would get sore arms. (I am extremely grateful for iPads!)
I talk about my favourite site and how lucky I am to visit such a vast range of different sites and locations.
"Almost 800 Warehouses"
Home vs. Enterprise Wi-Fi
Simon and I discuss the differences between home and enterprise Wi-Fi and why businesses should never treat them the same. I touch on the importance of getting a proper design and how often getting a “free” Access Point design can cause more headaches.
Designing for Warehouses
We go into depth the complexity of designing for Warehouses and share some insights in a recent project we completed together. We talk about Robots, Handheld Scanners and that Wi-Fi is the backbone to everything working.
I complete a little demo and show the interferers and all the misconfigured Access Points found just sitting in the studio
We talk about the hidden costs for poor Wi-Fi and so much more!
"If the Wi-Fi isn't working, the staff aren't working"
Common Wi-Fi Myths and Mistakes
We then went on the discuss the common myths and mistakes, including:
> Adding more Access Points because there are ‘dead spots’
> Doing your own Access Point placement design
> Thinking that Wi-Fi isn’t reliable
"It doesn’t need to be rubbish. You don’t have to live with dropouts"
I share some personal insights of seeing patterns and checking out the Access Point design of the hospital when my children were born
"Spotting Access Points in the Wild"
LogiQ-On Tech Description
LogiQ-On Talking Tech | Episode: Designing Wi-Fi That Works – A Conversation with Nicky Monk from Akomplished WiFi
In this episode of LogiQ-On Talking Tech, host Simon Wile sits down with Nicky Monk, founder of Akomplished WiFi Solutions, to demystify one of the most overlooked yet business-critical foundations of modern operations: reliable Wi-Fi. With over 15 years in wireless network engineering, Nicky has designed and optimised networks for warehouses, offices, and large enterprise sites across Australia. Together, they unpack what separates high-performing enterprise Wi-Fi from home setups — and why cutting corners at the design stage can cost businesses far more later.
Nicky shares her professional journey, starting at just 19, when she dove headfirst into network security and Wi-Fi deployment projects that would shape her career. Her early experiences — “thrown into the deep end” — taught her the importance of doing things right from the start. That same philosophy drives Akomplished WiFi today: delivering data-driven, site-specific network design that eliminates dropouts, dead zones, and frustration for frontline teams who depend on always-on connectivity.
Throughout the conversation, Simon and Nicky explore:
The difference between home and enterprise Wi-Fi — and why businesses should never treat them the same.
How warehouse Wi-Fi design impacts operational efficiency, robotics, and real-time data capture. The role of heat maps, site surveys, and RF planning in building reliable networks.
Common mistakes businesses make when they accept “free” Wi-Fi designs bundled with hardware purchases.
Why Tri-Band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi 6/6E are shaping the future of connectivity in retail and logistics environments.
The value of consistency in warehouse layouts and access-point positioning for seamless roaming and signal stability.
Tips for operators: how to recognise credible Wi-Fi consultants, avoid “cowboy installers,” and make design decisions that scale with growth.
Nicky also offers personal insight into her passion for the craft — from the satisfaction of a perfectly tuned heat map to her light-hearted admission of “spotting access points in the wild.” The conversation closes with Nicky’s advice for businesses struggling with poor performance: “It doesn’t need to be rubbish. You don’t have to live with dropouts.”
She urges leaders to invest in proper Wi-Fi site design and validation — because expert planning pays for itself in uptime, productivity, and peace of mind.
Simon wraps up with key takeaways for organisations modernising their operations:
Plan Wi-Fi from day one — it’s the backbone of digital transformation.
Invest in a professional site survey before rollout.
Understand that proper design is a specialised skill, not a free add-on.
Future-proof your setup with modern standards like Wi-Fi 6 and Tri-Band networks.
Whether you’re an IT manager, warehouse operator, or retail technology professional, this episode offers practical insight into how Wi-Fi design directly impacts productivity, automation, and customer experience.
