How Akomplished Delivered a 5-Star Wi-Fi Solution for a Luxury Hotel

Objective
A new luxury hotel required reliable Wi-Fi coverage to provide guests with complimentary Wi-Fi. During the construction phase, the hotel supplied accurate, to-scale floor plans. The hotel engaged Akomplished to perform an off-plan Access Point (AP) placement design.
Approach
Customer Requirements:
The hotel provided a detailed Scope of Works (SoW), outlining the essential requirements for the wireless network. This included the AP model, minimum signal strength, anticipated usage, and coverage areas.
Project Design:
Using Ekahau AI Pro, we transformed the hotel’s floor plans into a detailed 3D network plan. We started by creating the building layout, adding each floor, and setting essential parameters such as ceiling height, material thickness (for attenuation), and floor alignment points. We also defined zones such as ‘hole-in-floor’ areas and exclusion zones, added all walls and obstacles, and fine-tuned coverage, capacity, and usage profiles to align with the SoW.

Access Point Details:
We added simulated APs to the design, using the model specified in the SoW. For each AP, we set details such as whether it would be ceiling, wall, or floor-mounted, as well as the height, tilt, TX power, and channel assignments for each radio.
Design and Visualisation:
Drawing on our experience in hotel Wi-Fi environments, we developed an optimal AP placement design. Each heatmap visualisation was reviewed to ensure all coverage, capacity, and signal requirements were met.
Report:
We provided a detailed report, including the final AP design, along with performance expectations like signal strength, data rates, and signal-to-noise ratios.
Outcome
The AP design was implemented as recommended in our report. Akomplished performed a thorough coverage check of all areas before the hotel opened to guests. The results confirmed that the actual performance aligned with the simulated design, meeting all SoW requirements.
